It's true: Sleep is directly correlated to your success in life and especially money. Get more sleep and you will be rewarded. You will feel better, get ill less often, stay physically younger, and most importantly accumulate more wealth with less effort. In my quest to save as much money as possible for my first home mortgage down payment, I am critically analyzing and improving my money savings plan every day. Sleep is a critical component of my personal savings plan. The reason sleep is so important to your personal finances and wealth can be summarized with one word: leverage.

Leverage - The Most Important Word In Making Money

Leverage means getting more done with less effort. It means making more money with less time invested. There are only so many hours per week. If you are not getting more done with less effort and time invested, you are going to take more time to reach you financial and life goals. To learn more about financial leverage you may wish to read books by Robert Kiyosaki. I highly recommend his books, they changed my life and especially how I view my personal finances. If you have leverage on your side, you will make more money, spend less time working, and have more time left over for your true interests in life. So what does leverage have to do with sleep? It's easy: More sleep equals more leverage.

Get More Sleep For More Leverage In Your Life and Finances

Have you ever felt in the zone? You are working two, three, four, or even five times faster than normal. You are totally focused and producing the best quality output of you life. I sure have. Being in the zone is a combination of multiple things, with one critical component definitely being sleep. Get more sleep and the time you spend working will be far more productive. Here's the best thing: getting just one or two more hours of sleep each day will most likely double your productivity. Let's take an example. Say you sleep 6 hours each night right now and work 8 hours a day. Let's say you now decide to sleep 8 hours each night and work only 6 hours per day. Each of the 6 hours you work is now twice as productive as before so it's really like you're working 12 hours per day! This is the beauty of leveraging sleep to improve your life and personal finances.

How To Get More Sleep

One of the best ways to get more sleep is to exercise regularly. By working out, you will not only get more sleep at night but also get even more leverage because exercise sharpens your mind and spirit.

Another way to get more sleep is to make sure your bed and mattress are comfortable. If you are sleeping on and old mattress of insufficient sheets and blankets, you may be hindering your ability to sleep. Because the leverage is so huge, I highly recommend investing in a new mattress and linens. You will quickly pay back your investment time and time again.

Another excellent way to improve your sleep is to understand if you snore of not. If you snore, you may have sleep apnea. Sleep apnea means you have trouble breathing when sleeping and actually wake up many times during the night. While you may not remember all of the sleep interruptions in the morning, your body definitely well. There are several stages of a successful sleep cycle and each time you wake up the cycle beings again. If you have severe sleep apnea, you may never progress to the REM stage which means your energy and leverage will be impaired during the day. If you suspect that you have sleep apnea, I highly recommend consulting your doctor. There are many products on the market which can help you get a better night's sleep and change your life. For additional information on sleep apnea, you may wish to visit the American Sleep Apnea Association.

Remember Your Goal

As a closing thought, getting more sleep is counterintuitive. Your body and mind will tell you to stay up and keep going. To achieve leverage in your life and wealth, you need to fight against these instincts to stay up. You need to consciously tell yourself to stop and go to sleep earlier knowing that that decision will greatly pay off in your leverage the next day.
